Sanitation - Waste Management
Residents of Skagafjörður Municipality are required to sort all household waste as all waste within the municipal of Skagafjörður is recycled. It is important go get familiarized how to sort waste.

Waste Management Centers
There are three Waste Management Centers in the municipality. They are Flokka in Sauðárkrókur, Farga in Varmahlíð and a sorting station in Hofsós. All waste and recycling raw materials are received there. Residents must sort the waste as much as possible before arriving at the reception center in order to expedite service. Waste is not accepted in black bags, but clear bags must be used. This is done to prevent landfilling of material and items that can be put to better use.
